MZF and Cieden
Behind these two seemingly cryptic codes stand two of my current short and long term projects.

The past few weeks have been absolutely crazy but in a good way. Lots of stuff going on simultaneously often is a sign of excitement and tiredness building up at the same time. In my case, it’s really been like that since the end of May (and my last blog entry BTW) but it was pretty cool in the end and the climax in coming next week-end. In a nutshell, I had two very important deadlines for work, got two positive reviews concerning two of my papers, a conference in Denmark (with two talks during the same session last Tuesday) and two projects that I want to tell you about.
First: MZF for MidZomer Fair. The noorderwinds are giving shows this coming week-end (as in tomorrow and the day after) at this event in the Archeon, close to Amsterdam. We are going to make a tournament-like show and I think it should turn out to be pretty cool. We’ll fight every day at around 13.00 (I’ve been told) in the roman arena of the park and we really were very invested in the preparation with many rehearsals on site during the last few weeks. Seriously, when you are already almost overwhelmed with work, taking the train with your 20kg equipment to go and fight until nightfall in the sand is tiring, a little surreal but also very exciting. Actually, the truth is that I am in a train between Nyborg and Copenhagen as I am typing these lines in order to catch a plane early this afternoon and join the final rehearsal later today… just fresh off a conference in Denmark without even stopping at home. ^^
I don’t have much to show you as a teaser but this short video shot with Youval and I when we were still setting up one of our fights. I thank Shutan for the video editing and the addition of the music.
Second project: Cieden for “Le Ciel d’Eden“. I guess it’s ok to share this info since it’s all been posted there anyway: http://thegate-virak.blogspot.com/2010/05/le-ciel-deden-le-jeu.html but I know all of you can’t read French. Basically, there’s a French and talented graphic artist named Virak who created a universe for one of her graphic novels some time ago. Many complications led the project to a sort of stand-by publishing wise and she decided to make an amateur video game based on that universe so that all her work wouldn’t be lost. It will be Role Playing Game and she contacted me to create an Original Sound Track! Which is really cool because I think it’s a very interesting project and she is an artist and I really respect and have been following for quite a while now. At this point, I know some of you are already thinking “Great, again a project in French with French people, I will never be able to play that game!”. Well, you are wrong! This game will be in French and English. That’s one of the points I discussed with Virak and she also thought it could be nice to broaden her audience. If you want to know a bit more about her work, you can visit her website or her deviantart web page and, if you live in France, I’d like to point out that she currently draws a comic named Dash Panther in the magazine “Mini-Wakfu Mag“. As you can guess, this is a long term project but I will show you some stuff and let you listen to some of the music I make as the work progresses.
