Music, Swords and Magic...

Teaser 2 (video)

I am still really overwhelmed with work at the moment but the light at end of the tunnel is starting to glow… I’m only about a couple of weeks away from freedom. Well, not quite freedom but my PhD thesis will be between the hands of my jury by then. However, I don’t want to use that as an excuse to leave my blog without update too long so I have a nice video for you. This is a teaser of the making of our movie! Your task is to find the sequences where I can be seen (not many actually ^^).

I hope you’ll enjoy this (even if it’s in Dutch) and, trust me, the movie will be worth the wait:

Now, on a totally non-related topic, I want to talk a little about something that was unfortunately brought to my attention after the event. I heard that the 17th of May was the international day against homophobia. So, I am a good week late but I found a very nice post on a comic blog about this event. It’s unfortunately in French but I know that about half of the people reading this blog can read French anyway so I invite you to have a look at Djou’s blog.I suggest you first read this entry: http://djou-bd.over-blog.com/article-31393970.html

and then you can read the following one because she took the initiative to invite several artists to create a comic strip on the topic and all the contributions are listed a the end of this message: http://djou-bd.over-blog.com/article-31492628.html

I never intended this blog to deal with big sociological or political issues (and I didn’t change my mind yet) but I have to admit that this topic made me think a little. I do have quite a lot of gay an lesbian friends and it became quite a natural thing for me. I suppose it’s the way it should be actually. But, as a consequence, I often forget or overlook the fact it still can be difficult to live as a male/male or female/female couple in our society. And, in fact, something surprises me a lot about that: it looks to me like homophobia is more frequent among youngsters nowadays. I may be totally wrong about that though but I feel like older generations needed some time to get use to gay couples but, overall, successfully did so (not all of them but many). For instance, if I were gay, I don’t think I’d have any problem with my family or anyone I know and can think of from their generation while I might be less confident with a few colleagues or friends about my age (only very few fortunately). Actually, the few truly homophobic persons I ever met were my age or younger. Maybe it’s just a totally biased observation (because I mainly meet people my age) but I’d be curious to have your thoughts about that. I really don’t understand how and why some current teenagers become homophobic.

I’ve been thinking about your comment on homophobia and generational tolerance.
Could be my own generation is indeed more open for historical reasons. Indeed, we are the “Peace and Love” generation. Which included all round sexual liberation.
We’re also the women’s lib’ generation and gay lib’ too.
A lot of us were actively involved in the fight for women and gay rights. A lot of those who weren’t actively involved still thought equal rights, tolerance and the end of discrimination were a good idea. Goes for racism too, actually.

So, I guess, though some people my age might still feel uneasy around gay couples, be they male or female, exchanging gestures of tenderness, they tend to swallow their unease and accept things for what they are.
On the whole, we do recognize - intellectually at least - that people have the right to love whoever they want - colored, same sex, whatever.

Mind, I may have a rosy view… Could be it’s just the kind of people I know ^-^

I suppose you are right. Your point of view is interesting in any case!
It’s a pity I didn’t dedicate more time to my blog lately and let it in a sleepy mode because I was really looking forward to getting feedback on this topic.
Nevertheless, I’ll probably talk about that again because I told Djou that I would take part in her action next year.
